From the 2019 SRYC Commodore
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2019 season at the Shrewsbury River Yacht Club.
The SRYC is a unique organization with a beautiful location and a rich history. Founded originally as the Players Boat Club by a group of vaudevillians, the first clubhouse was a houseboat. During the next 109 years, through fair weather and foul, the Club has not only survived, but has thrived.
The true strength of the SRYC is its members. We are a volunteer club, and many of the tasks required for its operation are done almost invisibly by members who dedicate themselves to ensuring that the Club functions smoothly. From the officers and Board of Governors, to the committee chairs, to the members who toil at work parties, it is our volunteers who make the Club available for all to enjoy.
Thanks to our by-law amendment last October, we have a more inclusive membership structure, which we hope will lead to increased participation in Club activities.
We wish a warm welcome to our new members, and hope that you will utilize and enjoy your Club to the fullest. You will find that the more you participate, the more you will enjoy your membership.
Eileen and I, although both lifelong residents of the Jersey Shore, were relatively new to the Two River area when we joined the Club. Our membership has allowed us to form many close and lasting friendships with wonderful people.
Whether you come down for boating, a drink, or a meal with family and friends, we hope that you will have a truly enjoyable experience. Eileen and I wish you a great 2019 season.
